It’s crazy to think that a whole year has gone by since this sweet girl’s birth, but here we are celebrating with her one year milestone portraits!

That first year with baby goes by in a blink- especially with your second! For First Year Collective babies like this one, I love to compare their newborn portraits with their one year milestone portraits. When you look at the side-by-side below, you can see SO much has changed!

I’ve been working with this family for years, so to see them adding to the family was a really special moment. We scheduled their maternity session last Summer and then a few months later, baby girl made her first visit to the studio for her three-month milestone session.

Just recently, they visited my studio again for the fourth session of her First Year Collective. The birthday girl did SO well, I look forward to seeing her sweet smile at their family’s yearly portrait sessions!

Simplicity sessions like this one with just baby are perfect for milestones. I typically recommend these sessions when Mom and Dad also plan to do a family session within the year. This helps ensure they are in portraits with baby, too!

Birthday sessions start with baby sitting and crawling around the studio as they explore for a bit.

Then I bring in a chair or an ottoman to help them stand – this usually gets the biggest smiles!

At the end of the session we bring out the cake for the cake smash. Babies either love it or they hate it! This part is very quick so we do it at the end to limit any fussiness! In this case, as you can see, baby sis wasn’t a fan. It sure made for some cute photos though!
