This 3 month milestone session in my Austin studio will always hold a special place in my heart. This sweet baby girl and her very smitten big brother made it such a memorable one! As a baby photographer, I know the three month milestone is often overlooked but goodness, it’s such a good one!
Most milestone sessions take place around 6 months (or when baby can sit unassisted) and at one year. It’s not as often that I get to see baby during that “in-between” milestone at 3 months. But, I have to admit there is something pretty wonderful about seeing families once they come out of that newborn fog!!
It’s not uncommon for some families to delay or miss documenting their baby during the “typical” newborn stage. The three month milestone session is a wonderful option for babies who had a NICU stay or for Moms who need more time to recover from a difficult delivery. Other families simply choose this in-between milestone because it gives the whole family time to adjust and maybe catch up on sleep!
Whatever the reason, I’m a firm believer that every stage is worth documenting.

I know it’s hard to believe it when you’re holding your tiny, sleepy newborn- but by three months old babies change SO much. I mean, it felt like yesterday I was photographing this family’s maternity session!
At this age babies are so much more interactive and starting to show some personality. They are starting to smile, have better head control, and often have some adorable chunky cheeks like this baby girl!
While the sleepy newborn poses aren’t possible at this milestone, they do still snooze on occasion! Baby sis was awake for most of this session which I expected for her age, but then fell asleep in Mama’s arms. I was able to document the little details like her hands, beautiful long eyelashes, and fuzzy hair with ease.
