As both a Mom and a baby photographer in Austin, the six month milestone is one of my very favorites! The last time I saw this sweet girl was for her newborn session and it was such a joy to see how much she has changed since then. She was giving us the biggest smiles, adorable inquisitive looks, and even showing off her newest trick- sticking her tongue out.

Planning your Baby’s six month milestone session

The “sitter milestone” usually takes place around the time baby is six months old. Babies progress at a different pace so it’s not uncommon to plan these sessions at the 7 to 8 month mark, too! It’s really the perfect stage for photos once your baby is sitting independently.

Documenting this milestone is even more special because you can already see so much of their little personality coming through. We get to see all of their adorable facial expressions and new skills they have learned, like sitting up, grabbing their toes, and their ability to push up on their arms during tummy time. Plus, it’s a sweet stage to document before baby is on the move!

When to Book

I recommend reaching out to book your baby’s sitter session when they are 3 to 4 months old. My schedule fills up 3 to 4 months in advance, and even quicker in the Fall, so this ensures more availability for the dates you need.

For First Year Collective families, we communicate often to ensure you have priority booking for your little one’s milestone sessions. I typically have a session date tentatively scheduled for you to make sure your space is reserved. I also check in around that 4 month mark to see how baby is doing since each baby hits these milestones differently!

What is included

Your baby’s sitter milestone session can be either a signature session or a simplicity session. My goal is to make this process as easy as possible on you, Mama! With either session option, you’ll have access to the client wardrobe as well as all session planning and artwork design.

Signature sessions allow Mom and Dad to be present in the photos with baby during this fun stage, which I highly recommend. Of course this includes the whole client experience, including professional hair and makeup for Mom. The simplicity session includes portraits of baby only.
