The last time I saw these sweet girls they had just celebrated their three month milestone after having to skip their newborn session due to the pandemic. It’s wild how fast time goes, isn’t it?! We blinked and they are already back to see me in my Austin studio for their first birthday photo session!!

The first birthday is such a big milestone and one that is so much fun to document. For First Year Collective Members, this session is always a must have! Others choose to add it on as a simplicity session for portraits of just baby- or babies, in this case!

As a family photographer here in Austin, TX, I have the honor of photographing lots of families at this fun stage of life. I know I always say this for every age, but truly- age one is a favorite! Kids are just so happy (and sometimes a little quizzical) just taking it all in during their session. Especially during the cake smash!

It has been such a joy seeing these girls grow the past year. After Mama picked some adorable rompers from the client wardrobe we let them warm up to the camera with some sibling and individual photos.

Toward the end of the session it was cake time! It was so fun seeing how each of them reacted to the cake and frosting.

I always recommend doing a cake smash at the one year session so clients can enjoy birthday parties without the stress of the cake smash. I find it really helps you just take in the moment so much more! Plus, sometimes babies don’t want to eat the cake when they are surrounded by a lot of people. These sessions give them a chance to dig in without all of the pressure!
