Planning a Studio Family Session in Austin

Planning any session can feel like a lot of work on your own. It’s one of the reasons I’ll hold your hand through the entire process. From your first email to the delivery of your custom artwork, I want you to feel taken care of!

One of the ways I can help ensure you have the best experience possible is by helping you prepare for the session long before the day arrives. Here are a few of my favorite tips!

Utilize the Client Wardrobe

Plan Your Day Accordingly

As a parent, you’ve likely already got this covered. You know there’s nothing worse than scrambling to get everyone out of the door and feeling rushed before an event. My best advice here is to allow for an easeful morning by preparing ahead. The mood of your session is determined before you walk through the studio doors. Be kind to your future self and allow for plenty of time (maybe more than you think you’ll need) to get everyone fed and en route to the studio. Once you arrive, I’ll handle the rest!

Make it Fun

If you ask most kids what they want to do with their day, most aren’t going to answer with anything about being in front of a camera. But I promise this can be the most fun experience for the entire family. I have tons of tricks up my sleeve for getting those candid moments, but there are a few things you can do, too!

If your children are older, chat with them about how special this time is. Tell them why you’re so excited to document all of you together, and maybe even include them in a conversation about where your final portraits will live in your home! If they’re still small, make it fun. Plan something exciting for after your session. There are tons of amazing things to do in Austin, and it could be the perfect opportunity for a memorable day even after you leave my studio.

Session days don’t have to be stressful. They can be something everyone looks forward to. Plus, preparing everyone ahead of time lets them be their best self once you’re in the studio.
